This summer I began a small documentary project chronicling the restoration of a beautiful old property in Nagano.
An ambitious group of expats in Japan have undertaken the mammoth task of renovating an old family homestead in a small town in Nagano.
The house is set amongst the rice fields, at the foot of some great ski slopes. The frogs were deafening at night, as we sat around a bonfire cooking dinner and stoking the fire with scrap pieces of wood pulled from old shelves and cladding.
Below is a small sample of the video in its very early stages. I will return to the property again in Autumn, to see how they have progressed, and then in winter, when they are hoping to have completely refitted the kura.
It’s a huge amount of work, so good luck to them!
