400km south of Tokyo lies an active volcanic island featuring distinctive concentric twin calderas. About 150 people make this island their home; as teachers, engineers, government workers and subsistence farmers working the fertile volcanic soil and abundant fishing waters. I visited the island 5 times over several years, capturing images of the unique landscape and its residents. Alongside the project a documentary movie was produced, a trailer for which can be seen here.
These images were all created with a medium format film camera, negatives hand developed and prints produced by me in a dark room in Tokyo.
Prints of all images are available to be shipped internationally.
Most images are part of an edition of 8 (+2 Artist Proofs), although some prints are available in several different sized editions.
Prints are hand printed by me (silver gelatin from the original negatives) and securely shipped internationally. I can also assist with framing if necessary.
